How to Deal With Big Feelings – for mom and munchkins

I have some very deep feeling children. Maybe every mother says that? Do you also have deep feelers? My oldest feels IN LOVE when she meets a new friend and if I accidentally embarrass her there are tears for days. My toddler is a whole new world of emotions. When she got too angry a

I Won’t Waste Another Wish

I sometimes picture myself as an older woman. My children have flown the coup. My sweet husband and I have dinner with only each other as company most nights. I fill my days with…I really can’t picture that part. Will there really be a time in my life where I am not trying to keep

  • Check out my story today if you are interested in learning about an awesome carrier or already own an ergo and don't know about the side carry! Unrelated, this Bambino brings me so much happiness, sore muscles, exasperated feelings and JOY!
  • Anyone else CONSTANTLY have a tiny human on their person. All. Day. I KNOW I will ache for it one day so I try my hardest to soak it up.
  • Giant, feet only, tic-tac-toe! So fun!
  • Check out one of our favorite learning activities. All you need are some washable letters, like the ones you find in Bananagrams, some sensory item like rice or shaving cream, and a child. Link in the bio.

  • Mama mission: Be mindful of the adjectives you use with your children today! Tell them what amazing trait you notice them working on.

I love catching my children being amazing. I love pointing out their courage, focus, creativity, persistence, and empathy. When I do we always have a great conversation about vocabulary and also about how amazing they are.

So often we use empty adjectives. We point out that they are beautiful, strong, tall, cute or smart. These things are nice, but don't really mean much because they are born the way they are.

I want my girls to notice the amazing traits I see them working at every day. I want them to see what I see. Big Miss is so willing to help others and very curious about what she sees. Middle Miss is rediculous brave and empathetic. Little Miss is working on being welcoming and she always comforts a sad friend. I love to tell these sweet girls the amazing I see, not just comment on their beauty or strength.
  • Mama mission: Today when you notice a problem, say an entire batch of bananas you bought yesterday was attacked by a toddler with a butter knife, take the opportunity to teach not discipline.

The said toddler had asked me if she could have a banana. I said, "Sure, split it with your sister." Apparently she couldn't choose which banana she wanted to split. So I took her over to the crime scene and we talked about how bananas can go bad. We also talked about how to cut the bananas safely. It was awesome. We practiced ripping off a banana, peeling it, slicing it.
After the lesson I laid out the expectations I had for next time. Now we both know she knows the rules about splitting naners.
